Lord of the Flies, by William Golding is a tale about young prep school boys who are being evacuated from England to save them from the dangers of World War II. As they are being evacuated, their plane is shot down. The island that they land on is harsh and not fit for humans. Initially, the boys elect Ralph to lead them. Too young and naïve to be aware of the dangers of their situation, the boys spend their time fooling around. Eventually, a few of the younger kids begin having nightmares about a beast. This sets off a chain of events that results in the formation of a splinter group, the hunters which is led by a charming boy named Jack. This group believes that there is really a beast on the island and they set off to kill it. Eventually, the other boys become disloyal to Ralph and begin following Jack.
